Skin Care Consultation

This is an analysis of your skin type and matching a skin care regimen personally for you. The doctor will discuss which procedures will enhance your skin and help with your current complaints.

Skin care analysis is required for any chemical peel, intensed pulsed light treatment, or mesotherapy procedures.

Mesotherapy

Mesotherapy was pioneered in the 1950s by French physician Dr. Michel Pistor and consists of tiny injections of vitamins, minerals, medications, homeopathics and amino acids into the middle layer of the skin (in embryological development, the mesoderm)

Mesotherapy has a variety of applications which include weight loss, cellulite reduction, skin rejuvenation, and hair regrowth. Specific injection solutions are formulated according to the needs of the individual. Mesotherapy injections stimulate collagen regeneration by inhibiting free radical production that leads to age-related cellular degeneration.

For cellulite reduction the solution contains compounds that stimulate circulation, increase metabolism, and enhance lymphatic and venous drainage. These solutions work synergistically to help empty the fat cells, aiding in mobilization of the free fatty acids into the bloodstream for elimination. Mesotherapy injections in conjunction with a comprehensive nutritional, exercise, and detoxification program will improve your health, appearance, and overall fat metabolism.

Intense Pulsed Light

Dr. Barr is excited to have added the use of Intense Pulse Light or IPL. IPL is similar to laser in results but is safer, less painful, and less costly. This technique uses light pulses directed to the area of the body being treated. IPL can be used for the treatment of acne, rosacea, sun damage, age spots, reduction of blood vessels on the face, and to permanently reduce hair growth.

IPL can also be used for photorejuvenation by increasing the collagen in the skin. This will reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as reduce the size of skin pores (sebaceous hyperplasia). The effect will leave you with more youthful looking skin and a more even skin tone and texture.

Dr. Barr uses Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), which is FDA approved for treatment of pigmented and vascular lesions, photorejuvenation, hair removal, and the treatment of mild to severe acne. IPL is effective in treating numerous skin conditions including vascular lesions, telangiactasias, rosacea, psorisis, and pigmented lesions like age spots and sun-damaged skin.

Chemical Peels

Alphaydroxy acids (naturally derived acids) are beneficial in improving the visible signs of aging or sun damaged skin and for the treatment of various dermatological conditions including acne, dry skin, hyperkeratoses and hyperpigmentation. Alphahydroxy acids are in many of our daily moisturizers to ensure that you are getting some daily exfoliation for cell turnover. The peels used are medical grade and are determined specifically for the individual's skin type and particular needs.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids gently sheds dead, dull surface cells, permitting new healthy cells to take their place. peel results in a significant improvement in the skin's clarity, texture, color and tone. Lines and wrinkles are diminished resulting in firmer, smoother skin. Pores are cleared of impurities, improving acne-prone oily skin. Dr. Barr will assess your skin type and make recommendations for your peel protocol. This may include a serums for aging skin, or a lightener for hyperpigmentation.

All of the peels used are known to stimulate collagen synthesis, lessen abnormal pigmentation, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, and normalize pore size.

Photodynamic Therapy

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a treatment that combines Levulan and IPL. The levulan is applied to the affected areas and then is exposed to specific wavelengths of light that a reaction that kills damaged cells and stimulates healthy cells to regenerate.

In our clinic we are using it for actinic keratosis (precancerous skin lesion), for pustular acne vulgaris, psoriasis, and to enhance photorejuvenation. There is much research being conducted for new applications of this exciting natural product
